This year's Theatre Bay Area Annual Conference, Leading the New California, is designed to spark an ongoing dialogue among theatre artists, administrators and trustees, to serve as a forum for sharing the latest insights, and to challenge attendees to hone their work for a new California in a new century.
Along with keynote speeches from Lynne Lancaster and Alan Brown, the conference will feature sessions designed for individuals, artists, marketers, educators, trustees and more. While there are "Issue Tracks" that thread throughout the day, participants are encouraged to take advantage of the sessions that most interest them. For a complete detailed agenda of the conference, please click here. The tracks are:
- Trustee Development Forum: an improved version of last year's program, designed to focus on the issues facing boards today, including upper-level hiring, funder-board interactions and techniques for identifying and fostering leadership both within the organization and on the board. To see the Trustee Training agenda, please click here.
- Exploring Artistic Impact: a thread for individuals and artistic staff alike that will include discussions of the changing demographics of California and its effect on the type of work being created here, as well as sessions on quantifying the value of art and creating socially relevant work in today's world.
- New Audiences in a New California: centered around the dual topics of creative ticket pricing and increasing customer buy-in to an organization as a whole, this thread will include sessions hosted by last year's popular speakers from Target Research Group (TRG), one of the leading market research firms working in the field today.
- Education & Ongoing Learning: topics in this thread range from presentations on the latest information on k-12 arts to discussions about how staff throughout an arts organization can continue to improve and hone skills as the marketplace rapidly changes.
- Finding Your Place as an Artist: this newly announced track specifically designed for individual artists and technicians will feature three breakout sessions that will work through how an individual can plan, succeed and achieve impact in today's arts community and beyond. It will include an analysis of the landmark ATLAS program, which just completed its first round, as well as panels with industry leaders on getting past the gatekeepers and broadening your impact.
- New Leaders for a New Century: a national convening by application only, which will highlight and explore the disconnect between current arts leadership and the next generation of leaders, and attempt to strategize about bridging that gap. You can now register online for the New Leaders conference and discover much more about it at www.theatrebayarea.org/newleaders.
In addition to the breakouts and speakers, the day will include plenty of time for conversation and networking, with morning coffee, a lunch and a closing reception on the loggia.
